Ride 64 - December 14, 2008

Yes! Ride 64 will be a car-free bicycling fun event with opportunities to just ride five miles of new pavement or enter a Time Trial and see how fast you can make the loop. We are working with MoDOT to offer a bicycle ride and festivities on the westbound lanes between McKnight and Ballas. Proceeds from the ride will help purchase bike racks for our Bike Parking Demonstration Project and will support our ongoing work toward more and better bicycling in the St. Louis region. "Pork" in bailout bill includes bicycle commuter Tax

Provisions of the long-sought Bicycle Commuter TAX are included in the $700 billion financial bailout bill passed by the Senate on Wednesday night.

The bicycle commuter measure provides a tax to employers who offer cash reimbursements to employees who ride their bicycles to work. It was pigeonholed after it was first introduced in 2005, and Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Portland and Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon reintroduced it in 2007.

This is the 3rd year for Cranksgiving, last year we had 72 riders who stopped at five grocery stores picking up over 1200 items worth of non-perishable foods for local food pantries. This years ride includes two routes. One for those who need a shorter route (5-6 miles) and the longer route (22-25miles). On the 23rd of November we will be starting @ Bicycle works @ 4102 Shenandoah Ave. St. Louis, Missouri 63110 at Noon.

Every September 22, people from around the world get together in the streets, intersections, and neighbourhood blocks to remind the world that we don't have to accept our car-dominated society.

But we do not want just one day of celebration and then a return to "normal" life. When people get out of their cars, they should stay out of their cars. It is up to us, it is up to our cities, and our governments to help create permanent change to benefit pedestrians, cyclists, and other people who do not drive cars.

The World Naked Bike Ride is an international event protesting oil dependency, promoting positive body image, and raising cyclist awareness. The bike ride’s dress code is “bare as you dare,” so all participants are welcome whether fully clothed, covered in body paint, or completely bare. It has been successful in various other cities such as nearby Chicago, though this is the first summer it will take place in Saint Louis. The Saint Louis event will have some pre-ride body painting at 7 pm.
