FBI Wanted Obama Plotters Charged, But A Rove Appointee Said No

We noticed last week that it was awfully peculiar that Colorado’s U.S. Attorney, Troy Eid, had so airily dismissed conspiracy charges against the three white-supremacist tweakers who were caught planning to assassinate Barack Obama at last week’s Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Meanwhile, protesters who were completely gun-free get charged with felony terrorism in Minneapolis.

Now it turns out that those suspicions were fully warranted:

KUSA - 9Wants to Know has learned three
men in Denver planned to assassinate U.S. Senator Barack Obama during
the Democratic National Convention in Denver by sneaking into one of
his events and shooting him with a gun hidden inside of a camera,
according to federal court records.

Rage Against the Machine: Anatomy of a Protest

You could tell right away, just walking up to the Target Center for the highly anticipated Rage Against the Machine show, that the cops expected trouble.

You could tell, by the way they lined up around the entire building in full riot gear and wooden sticks, while the fans were going INSIDE the center for the show they paid $80 to go see. (Seriously? They're going to riot BEFORE getting their money's worth?).

A time to dialogue, a time to demand

A time to dialogue, a time to demand

Coalition and compromise are important tools in building diverse mass movement for social justice, but there are times to dialogue and there are times to demand.

The upcoming RNC protests in St. Paul are an example of when it’s time to throw down and fuck shit up.

Dispatch from a Midwestern City

To anyone who has ever dreamt of a world beyond the boundaries imposed upon the one we currently inhabit. To all who cringe with disgust at the thought of another month’s work to pay for another month’s rent. To anyone who has dared to notice the glaring inadequacy of this walking death sold to us as life: These words are for you.

For the past year, we have inhabited an occupied space in conflict with the prevailing logic of capitalism: everything that can be desired is for sale (nothing escapes the realm of the commodity); in order to survive one must exchange commodities for their representation in the form of currency; one’s daily experience, the sum of life itself, is nothing more than a good to be sold on the open market. That space and the lives we have come to know and to love are being directly threatened by those who have chosen to base their livelihoods on exploitation, fear, and the destruction of life.

The Best Farmland in the U.S. Is Flooded; Most Americans Are Too Stupid to Panic

The best commentary I could offer is a link to a previous story:

World’s Largest Maker of Crop Nutrients: Famines May Occur Without Record Harvests

But I’ll ramble on a bit more about this, anyway.

As soon as I became aware of the flooding situation in the American Midwest, I posted the story with the EMERGENCY prefix on the title.
Just so we’re clear, when I write EMERGENCY at the beginning of a post
title, this is my way of indicating that the situation is as serious as
it gets. It means that I feel as though everyone reading should
consider taking immediate evasive action. All the jawboning about
conspiracy, how things could have been, how things should be, etc. are
behind us now. You know, EMERGENCY, act fast, eyes wide, nostrils
flared, etc.

While the food supply situation has skated along a knife edge so far
this year, with higher prices and many countries experiencing food
riots, widespread famine did not take hold. In an incredible move, the Japanese quietly eased rice shortages
by releasing portions of their imported rice stockpiles—from giant
warehouses in Tokyo—into the system; a welcome but one off blip in the
big picture. What happens next time?

River City Animal Defense League Joins the Fight Against I-69

On the evening of Monday, May 19th, the newly formed River City Animal Defense League (ADL) and friends made our public debut. We took to the neighborhoods, and more specifically the houses of executives and contractors of Gohmann Asphalt and Construction, Inc. Gohmann Asphalt and Construction, Inc. is a disgusting company that has decided to proceed with business in the construction of Interstate-69 (I-69) which is the North American Free Trade Agreement's (NAFTA) superhighway.
