Filipino Workers hold March to protest against the GFMD
As the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) opened today in Manila, at least 5000 workers from the Philippines and other countries in every region of the world came together in one of the broadest labor mobilizations ever organized in the entire history of the global trade union movement.
Foreign leaders of global unions around the world joined the Workers March in solidarity with the Solidarity Action of Labor against GFMD (SALAG), the first national labor formation created to respond to issues on migration and development. SALAG which led the rally includes the Labor Alliance for Better Order and Reform (LABOR), the different national public sector unions that are members of the Public Services International (PSI) in the Philippines, and the Solidarity of Union and Labor Organization for New Government (SULONG).
Wobfest
Fellow Workers:
the Chicago IWW is hosting the 2008 Midwest Wobfest, Nov.8-9 at the UE hall on 37 S. Ashland Avenue. All IWWs and other workers are invited. Presentations require a $10 registration fee. The Saturday night party is open to all (no registration required). You can register by mail, email, or at the door. See the attached documents for the schedule and registration form. Saturday lunch will be provided and housing will be arranged for those who need it.
The Concept of Work for Less
Work For Less laws (otherwise known as "Right To Work") are on the march, with backers attempting to add Colorado as their twenty-third state. Coalitions of labor, business, and religious organizations are fighting the onslaught, but they could use some help.
(and what you can do to help)
No one will be shocked that we're witnessing deception in politics. Someone long ago realized if you have an unpopular cause, you call it the opposite of what it is. We've endured that legacy ever since.

CIW Chipotle Protest @ U City Loop
Thursday, October 9, 11:30 a.m.
6310 Delmar - on the U City Loop
In a nutshell, the CIW and its allies across the country have already won campaigns against Taco Bell, McDonald's, Burger King and Whole Foods to get these huge corporations to take responsibility for the farmworker abuse and poverty (including actual cases of federally-prosecuted modern-day slavery) resulting from these corporations' high-volume, low-cost tomato purchasing practices.

FARE STRIKE!
No to the Bailout of the Capitalist Speculators!
The financial crisis that has been heating up since early 2007 reached the boiling point in late September. Credit markets virtually stopped functioning. A full-blown panic swept stock markets worldwide. The U.S. economy is in the throes of a recession that could turn into a Depression lasting for years. In these dire straits, the Wall Street speculators who set off this crisis are demanding that the government rescue them with a bailout priced at $700 billion. The actual costs will be far higher, a trillion dollars or more. Meanwhile, the Democrats are pushing hardest for the Bush bailout of the banks. Presidential candidate Barack Obama blames "greed" for the crisis on Wall Street (capitalism without greed?) and says there must be no "blank check to Washington" -- meaning he's for putting in a few conditions as window dressing. Following in the Democrats' footsteps, the AFL-CIO labor bureaucrats called a demo for "No Blank Check for Wall Street." Yet no amount of regulation will stop the boom-bust cycle of capitalism. Meanwhile unemployment lines are growing and a million families were thrown out of their homes by bank foreclosures in the last year. While the fat cats, Democrats and bureaucrats are all going for the Bush bailout to prop up U.S. capitalism, revolutionary Marxists oppose this trillion-dollar giveaway to the Wall Street speculators, calling instead for a program of transitional demands leading to the expropriation of the banks and the entire bourgeoisie through workers revolution.
Expropriate the Bourgeoisie Through Workers Revolution!
No to the Bailout of the Capitalist Speculators!
Down with the Dictatorship of Finance Capital!
